got a couple of hours to spare in Cambridge?
don't pay for a guide - see the best of the sights with our
whistlestop tour of the central colleges
Apart from punting, walking is the best way to see the Cambridge colleges . The centre of Cambridge has no hills - it is built largely on reclaimed land - so no trip is too arduous. There are plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants in the centre of town, which is where the most famous and spectacular colleges are situated, much of Cambridge City Centre is a pedestrian zone.
This twenty-step tour will take you around five of the colleges - St John's, Trinity, Trinity Hall, Clare and King's. It also takes in the busy market square and some of the main shopping streets in the town. It takes two hours by foot, and the total cost for entrance to the colleges on the tour is £8:50 per adult. It's a circular tour, so you can join it anywhere en route.
These pages are illustrated with photographs of the sites on the tour. Pictures might take time to download.
